Cricket is a team sport played with a bat and ball on an active pitch. A match consists of two innings during which the teams take turns batting, with the goal of outscoring one another.
The first inning of a cricket match is characterized by the batting team earning runs while being supported by a bowling team that tries to limit the amount of runs scored. The second inning takes place after the completion of the first inning and is determined based on how many runs were scored during the first inning and whether or not either side was able to score more than the opposing side.
Methods of Scoring Runs
Scoring runs occurs in multiple ways based on action by the batsman.
Action – Number of Runs
- The batsman runs between the wickets: (1 – 3 runs )
- The ball reaches the boundary: 4 runs
- The ball goes over the boundary without touching the ground: 6 runs
How to Get Out
To be called “out”, the batsman must have one of the following occur:
Hit Wicket, etc.
Bowled (the ball strikes the stumps)
Caught (the ball is caught by an infielder)
Run Out
